DOKIC Mirjana

Mirjana Dokic is a composer, new media artist, researcher and violist based in Hong Kong, where, she is currently pursuing a PhD in Creative Media at the School of Creative Media (SCM), City University of Hong Kong, under Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme. Her fields of research include electroacoustic music composition and performance for Virtual Reality, Virtual Heritage, Sound Art, soundscape composition and audiovisual composition.

Mirjana holds a Master Degree in Music (Viola) from the Conservatory of Music Santa Cecilia, Rome, Postgraduate Certificate in Leading Learning and Teaching from the University of Dundee, Scotland, Bachelor Degree in Music (Viola) from Faculty of Music, University Ss. Cyril and Methodius, Skopje, Macedonia and diploma in Music Theory.

At the School of Creative Media, Mirjana’s research is based on the investigation of the possibilities and challenges of the electroacoustic music composition techniques and cutting-edge sound spatialisation technologies, including Ambisonics and Dolby Atmos, in Virtual Reality with an aim to create a full-body immersive Virtual Heritage experiences for the audience.

Mirjana’s compositions, which are a result of her wide knowledge and education in the field of classical music, sound art, jazz and traditional music, are characterized by the sonic, melodic and rhythmic variety and sensitivity. As a fusion violist and sound artist, she expands the role of her instrument beyond the world of the classical music by introducing viola, acoustic and electric, to the world of computer and electroacoustic music. Mirjana is a member of International Computer Music Association (ICMA) and Shared Campus, and her compositions are performed at conferences such as International Computer Music Conference (ICMC). In 2018, Mirjana released her debut album ‘Beautiful Baby’, under her artist name Mia Del Sol, worldwide through Spinnup (Universal Music).

As a violist, Mirjana has twenty years of experience in symphonic and chamber orchestras in Switzerland (Mission Symphony and Chamber Orchestra),  Italy (Orchestra of the Rome Easter Festival), France (Orchestre Symphonique du Mont-Blanc), USA (Symphony of the Americas Summerfest), Macedonia (Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra and F.A.M.E.S. Film Orchestra) and Serbia. Besides classical music, Mirjana has worked in the main popular music festivals orchestras in Macedonia since 2004.

As a violin and general music teacher, Dokic has five years teaching experience in British, International Baccalaureate and American International Schools in Doha, Qatar in the Government Music School in Serbia.

As a solo violinist in the entertainment industry, Mirjana has been a resident musician in the most luxurious 5 star hotels such as Ritz Carlton, Doha, Qatar, Kempinski, Doha, Qatar and Bab Al Shams Desert Resort, Dubai, UAE, as well as at the theatre of the cruise ship MSC Splendida.
