Biography
Michael Just is an interdisciplinary artist based in Berlin, Germany, southeast Austria and Hong Kong. He studied Fine Art at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf with Daniel Buren (Master/Meisterschüler 2007), received an MFA in Art Practice from Goldsmiths, University of London, UK (2009) and participated in the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program in New York City, USA (2010/2011). He is currently pursuing a PhD at the City University of Hong Kong, School of Creative Media. In 2024, he is a visiting researcher at Delft University of Technology, Department of Architecture, Ecologies of Architecture Research Group. He is furthermore a Steering Committee member at DigitalFUTURES, where he chaired the 2023 Mark Cousins Theory Award. Michael is also developing an interdisciplinary residency program in rural Austria – CASTED: Center for Aesthetic, Social, Technological and Ecological Discourse.
Michael has taught, lectured and exhibited internationally in North America, Europe, Africa and Asia. Teaching includes institutions such as the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, Goldsmiths - University of London, Art Center College of Art and Design, and the China Academy of Art, School of Design and Innovation.
