Biography

Prof. Shen, a Zhejiang University graduate, received his PhD in materials science from University of Newcastle in 1991 and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at University of Western Ontario, Canada from 1991 to 1993. He joined the City University of Hong Kong as Associate Professor in December 2000 from University of Sydney and currently is Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering. He was also a visiting scientist at University of Bonn, Germany in 1995 and at Nanyang Technological University of Singapore in 1999. Prof. Shen’s major research areas are nanostructured materials, thin films (carbon-related, metals, nitrides, oxides, nanocomposites, and multilayers), and nano-scale modeling. Over the past twenty years, his research in these fields has resulted in over 160 SCI articles in prestigious journals, such as Physical Review B, Physical Review E, Acta Materialia, Applied Physics Letters, Journal of Applied Physics, Scripta Materialia, Nanotechnology, etc. His publications have attracted substantial attention from the fields and been widely cited by others. The total citations received are over 2,200. The h-index of his publications is 25. Currently, he also serves as Associate Editor of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Letters.
