Professor Kostas Senetakis is an Associate Professor at City University of Hong Kong and the Program Director (Program Leader) of the Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering.

His PhD work at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Greece received "excellence with distinction", and was instrumented in experimental soil dynamics. He holds a bachelor in civil engineering (5-year integrated Bachelor/MSc with specialization in Geotechnical Engineering) and an MSc in Earthquake Engineering & Structural Dynamics. Prior to joining CityU as an academic, he held positions as Research Associate at AUTH Thessaloniki Greece, as Post-Doctoral Fellow at CityU Hong Kong and as a Lecturer at Thammasat University Thailand and UNSW Sydney Australia.

Professor Senetakis research interests focus in the fields of experimental and multi-scale geomechanics, experimental tribology at the small-scale, reservoir geomechanics, geosynthetics and recycled materials in geotechnics, data analytics and application of probabilistic/machine learning tools in geotechnical and civil engineering. He developed the first micromechanical apparatus of its type which allowed the quantification of both stiffness and friction at the contacts of sand grains and he quantified for the first time surface damage of real soil grains capturing the shearing path of small size sand particles. Professor Senetakis is currently the in-charge academic and co-Director of the Research Geomechanics & Tribology Laboratory at CityU which is one of the most advanced and well-equipped laboratories internationally for grain scale and element testing. He has published approximately 160 international journal papers and he is cited consistently over the last 5 years as top 2% most highly cited researcher in Stanford's list. 

Professor Senetakis is an Editor of Granular Matter (Springer) and Editorial Board Member for the journals: Canadian Geotechnical Journal, Geomechanics & Geophysics for Geo-Energy and Geo-Resources, Bulletin of Engineering Geology & the Environment and previously held EBM position for Soils & Foundations. He has supervised to completion 14 PhD students and presently he is working as supervisor of 5 PhD students.

Professor Senetakis is teaching various courses for the UG and PG programs including courses of engineering geology, foundation engineering courses, geomechanics and a course of statistics/machine learning for civil engineers. He is the in-charge academic of the UG program in civil engineering as Director, the coordinator and in-charge of the industrial training of civil engineering students and the ACE Industrial Training & Educational Technology Innovation Center, which integrates new technologies in construction (from 3D printing, robotic technologies & AI-driven methods for civil engineers) and he is serving CityU and his department in various areas such as Member of the Teaching & Learning Committee, Member of the Department Executive Committee of ACE Department, and he is Member of the Academic Conduct Committee ACC of CityU (Dean's nomination).
