Biography
Dr ZHANG has been an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the City University of Hong Kong since Sep. 2023. Before this, Dr Zhang was a Research Fellow at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS) under the wing of Prof WANG Hao. He obtained a Ph.D. from NUS, a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and Automation from Zhejiang University. His research focuses on the precision and smart finishing of functional surfaces, either conventionally machined or additively manufactured. He is particularly interested in developing novel polishing techniques for form error figuring and surface enhancement, and modelling the processes via analytical or data-driven methods. He has published more than 20 peer-reviewed journal papers in top-tiered journals such as Int. J. Mach. tools Manuf., Addit. Manuf., Int. J. Mech. Sci., IEEE Trans. Ind. Inform., etc. His achievement in precision engineering was recognized with the Heidenhain Scholarship from the European Society for Precision Engineering and Nanotechnology (euspen) in 2018, along with the Young Research Award from the Asian Society for Precision Engineering and Nanotechnology (aspen) in 2023. Now he is a member of euspen’s International Scientific Committee and also serves as an active reviewer for several SCI-indexed journals.
