Biography
David Xu is a professor in the Department of Information Systems at the City University of Hong Kong. His research interests include human-computer interaction, artificial intelligence, healthcare, social media, technology adoption, and virtual reality. He has over 75 publications, including 40 journal papers. His publications have appeared in all top four information systems journals (i.e., MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of Association for Information Systems), interdisciplinary UTD journals such as Management Science and INFORMS Journal on Computing, as well as various IEEE journals. Before joining City U in Oct 2017, he was the associate professor of MIS and Bomhoff Endowed Professor of Business at Wichita State University.
He earned his PhD from Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia in 2011. His Google Scholar citation count is about 2,700 and the h-index is 18. In 2024, the Association for Information Systems (AIS) ranked him the joint 5th worldwide (first-author count ranking) among the most productive information systems scholars for publishing in the top-4 (ranked joint 7th in the top-8) IS journals during the past 13 years (2011-2023). He was the recipient of the AIS Early Career Award in 2018 and was named AIS Distinguished Member - Cum Laude in 2020.
He teaches courses in Python programming, data visualization, human-computer interaction & multimedia, website design, and research methods across programs of undergraduate, taught postgraduate, and PhD seminars. In 2021, he received the College of Business Teaching Excellence Award. In 2024, he received the recognition of outstanding teaching performance (top 5% of teachers) from the Office of the Provost and Deputy President.
He is serving as a senior editor for Information Systems Journal (ISJ) and associate editor for Information Systems Research (ISR). He won the Best Associate Editor Award in ICIS 2020 and ISR Best Associate Editor Award in Oct 2021.
