1.  PhD Student Positions in Adsorption and Separation Lab at the City University of Hong Kong

The candidates are expected to work on research topics such as developing advanced porous adsorbents for CO2 capture, nature gas/biogas purification, and air pollution treatment (hazardous gases removal). The interested students shall contact Dr Jin Shang at [email protected] for consideration.

  • Requirements:

  • The candidate should hold a Bachelor or MPhil degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry or other related engineering and science fields. Experimental synthesis and characterization of porous adsorbents materials such as zeolites, MOFs, and mesoporous materials are essential expertise for this post. Applicants with experience in gas adsorption and/or storage are strongly encouraged to apply and will be given priority. Strong oral and written communication skills in English and the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team are essential.
  • An overall GPA not less than 85/100 (or 82.5/100 for top universities) and within top 5% at the school. A lower GPA standard could apply to those with good publications. Special notes for students from mainland China: please exclude scores of political and physical educations.
  • Fulfill the language requirement: a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based) or 79 (internet-based) is required, or an overall band score of 6.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
  • Additional information:

  • Candidates holding a Bachelor degree are expected to complete the PhD in 4 years, while candidates holding a research Master degree are expected to complete the PhD in 3 years.
  • Potential candidates can start to submit applications from September 2017 and the deadline is December 1st, 2017.
  • Successful applicants can work as Research Assistant as early as March 2018.
  • Monthly stipend: HK$15,900 (Postgraduate Studentship) or HK$20,000 (Hong Kong PhD Fellowship).
  • PhD candidates can also apply for various scholarship schemes for conferences, field studies, etc.
  • PhD candidates will have opportunities to visit the Australian Synchrotron, the University of Melbourne, the University of Western Australia, and Georgia Institute of Technology to conduct joint projects.

2. Research Assistant in the field of gas adsorption and separation at the School of Energy and Environment

  • Duties

  • The appointee will conduct advanced adsorbent materials synthesis and characterization, adsorption and separation study, and adsorption apparatus development.
  • Requirements

  • The candidate should hold a MPhil degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering or other related engineering and science fields. Applicants with synthesis and characterization of porous materials such as MOFs, zeolites, and mesoporous materials background are practically encouraged to apply. Strong oral and written communication skills in English and the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team are essential.
