In the broadest terms, my research focuses on making optimal decisions with limited resources. Mathematically, they mostly fall into the category of extension and approximation problems, and I approach them from the point of view of real and harmonic analysis. Here are some examples of questions that are interesting to me:
- How can we efficiently approximate a function or a manifold from a finite set of data points? What if there are additional constraints?
- How can we compare two datasets that are defined on different spaces? What if we are allowed to make a small amount of error?
- When can we effectively approximate a complicated (infinite-dimensional) operator using simple building blocks (rank-ones)?
