Biography

Prof. Michael C S Wong holds several positions at City University of Hong Kong. He is the Associate Dean (Global Executive Programmes) and the Global EMBA Director of the College of Business, an Associate Professor of Finance in the Department of Economics and Finance, and an Affiliate Professor of the Academy of Innovation. His areas of expertise include international banking, risk management, financial markets, and entrepreneurial finance.

Prof. Wong has provided advisory services to various central banks and commercial banks across Asian regions, focusing on risk management and the implementation of Basel Committee rules. He has also prepared independent risk assessment reports for company boards and regulators and has acted as an expert witness in legal disputes involving complex financial transactions. Prof. Wong has served as a founding member of the Global Association of Risk Professionals' FRM Committee, an examiner for professional examinations conducted by the Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute and the Hong Kong Institute of Bankers, and a member of the Market Misconduct Tribunal in Hong Kong.

Prof. Wong obtained his postgraduate degrees in Finance and Data Analytics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the University of Essex, and the University of Cambridge, respectively. He held the position of director for MSc programs in Finance, Banking, and Financial Engineering at CityU for over 12 years and supervised the graduation of more than 17 PhD/DBA students. His teaching excellence has been acknowledged with a university-wide Teaching Excellence Award. Prof. Wong's research has been recognized by the university as a high-impact case for the UGC's Research Assessment Exercise. He has also served as an editor of two academic journals on Sustainable Finance and Sustainable Investing, a judge panel member for CityU's HK Tech 300 in both seed and angel funding rounds, and a Senior Scientist at the Laboratory for AI-Powered Financial Technologies.
