Esther Asare is a PhD student at the Department of Linguistics and Translation, City University of Hong Kong under the supervision of Professor Meichun Liu and with funding from the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship. Esther has an MPhil in Ghanaian Languages and a B.A in English and Akan. Her MPhil thesis, titled, Conceptual metaphor and transitivity analysis of body parts fear and joy expressions in Akan won the School of Graduate Studies, University of Cape Coast Dean’s Award of Excellence. And for her BA studies, she was awarded the best graduating English student.
Prior to her enrolment in the PhD programme at CityU, she was a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the Department of Ghanaian Languages and Linguistics, University of Cape Coast, and a part-time Course Demonstrator for the Department of Communication Studies, University of Cape Coast, all in Ghana, for three academic years. Between August 2019 and May 2023, Esther taught Akan linguistics courses for the College of Distance Education and an English grammar course for the Institute of Education, University of Cape Coast, Ghana. She has also served as assistant examiner for various examining bodies including the West African Examination Council (WAEC).
