Biography
Dr. Colin McDermott earned his VMD degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. He completed a two-year specialty internship at the Matthew J Ryan Veterinary Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania in the Exotic Companion Animal Medicine and Surgery department. Following this internship, he was the Helen Swearer Fellow in Aquarium Science and Veterinary Medicine at the National Aquarium in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland, USA. He worked in private practice for 3 years at an emergency and specialty hospital in New Jersey, USA establishing their exotic animal medicine and surgery service before moving to Hong Kong in 2019. In Hong Kong, he has been working in an exotics focused private practice hospital providing care for exotic pets in Hong Kong.
In 2018, he became a Certified Aquatic Veterinarian through the World Aquatic Veterinary Medical Association. In 2021, he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Reptile and Amphibian Practice.
He has contributed to several book chapters and manuscripts on exotic animal medicine, and provided lectures and practical laboratories on exotic animal medicine for local and international veterinary conferences.
