Biography
Dr. Carmen C M Tsui is an architect and urban historian. She received her Ph.D. in architecture from the University of California at Berkeley, specializing in the history of architecture and urbanism. Carmen actively engages with the professional field of built heritage conservation. She is a member of the Heritage and Conservation Committee of the Hong Kong Institutes of Architects as well as the Docomomo Hong Kong. To inculcate an appreciation for architectural heritage into the wider public’s consciousness, from 2017 to 2019, Carmen has co-hosted a weekly radio program for Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK), which has provided the audience with an overview of the history of Western architecture and of Hong Kong’s urban and architectural development.
Carmen’s research interests include architectural and urban history, the history of housing and real estate development, built heritage conservation, and adaptive reuse of historic buildings. Currently, she is working on three funded research projects related to two main research areas: modern architecture, and housing history of Hong Kong.
