Biography

Angus is a veterinary epidemiologist who specialises in One Health, animal disease modelling, and animal health surveillance. Driven by his passion for understanding and preventing diseases, he aims to contribute towards improving public and animal health while saving lives on a large scale. His work primarily focuses on the human-animal-environment interface, as well as bridging research, policy, and practice in One Health. Through his involvement with the UKRI GCRF One Health Poultry Hub and the Lancet-PPATS (Preventing Pandemic At The Source) Commission on Prevention of Viral Spillover, along with two collaborative projects with the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) to develop policy guidelines related to High Pathogenicity Avian Influenza (HPAI) surveillance and African Swine Fever (ASF) vaccine, he has acquired valuable skills and experiences in implementing One Health strategies, providing policy advice to intergovernmental organizations, coordinating multinational stakeholder and technical meetings, and building capacity through in-person workshops and teaching. His primary research interests include identifying key drivers of disease spread and using epidemiological tools to assess risks and develop strategies to mitigate the impact of infectious diseases on both animals and humans. Recently, his research interests and skillsets have expanded to include machine learning, systems thinking, system dynamics modelling, systemic risk assessment and management, and strategic foresight.
