
Biography
HUANG Chen (Sarah) is a PhD candidate in the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong. She holds an MA in art history and archaeology from SOAS, University of London, and a BA in art history and sociology from the University of Hong Kong. From 2014 to 2018, she has been working in the School of Creative Media as a research assistant.
Sarah has been doing research on socially engaged art in contemporary China, responsible for data collection and data curation of an online archive, titled SEACHINA. She was also a core member of the development team for a mass open online course (MOOC) based on the archive.
Her current project examines the illustrated botanical books produced in Ming China, particularly focusing on the production and dissemination of the knowledge of famine foods, its ecological implication and connection with contemporary practices.
