Biography
Champa Detaramani is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English at the City University of Hong Kong. She designs, develops, coordinates and teaches a variety of courses at the undergraduate level. In the department's undergraduate programs, she teaches courses in English for corporate and professional communication. In the area of discipline-specific teaching, she is responsible for the following courses: 'English Communication Skills for Business I' and 'English Communication Skills for Business II'. Her main research areas include: anxiety in language learning, attitudes and motivation towards learning English, English for Specific Purposes, independent language learning, language and identity, learning strategies, and learning styles. Her work has been presented at international conferences and published in such leading international journals as Asian Ethnicity, the Journal of Multilingual and Multicultural Development, Asian Journal of English Language Teaching, English Teaching and Learning and the RELC journal. She is currently a reviewer for the Asian Journal of English Language Teaching. Champa's leadership-cum-administrative roles include being area leader for discipline-specific English in Business Communication as well as sitting on a number of Departmental committees, including the Departmental Executive Committee, the BAEPC Program Committee and the BAEP Program Committee. In addition, she also serves as the Student Mentoring Coordinator and Scholarships Officer.
