Biography

Prof. Bolong Huang received his PhD in 2012 from the University of Cambridge, and his BSc in condensed matter physics from the School of Physics, Peking University in 2007. Following systematic training periods of Post-doc at Peking University, and in Hong Kong, he started his independent research at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2015 and became the Associate Professor and the Director of the Research Centre for Carbon-Strategic Catalysis in 2022. He joins the in Department of Chemistry of City University of Hong Kong as a Professor in 2025.

Prof. Huang’s main research fields are electronic structures of nanomaterials, energy materials, solid functional materials, and rare earth materials, as well as their applications in multi-scale energy conversion and supply systems. Prof. Huang has published 335 research papers in peer-reviewed international journals with 283 papers as the corresponding author/first author/co-first author including Nature, Science, Chem. Soc. Rev., Energy Environ. Sci., Sci. Adv. J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Nat. Commun., Adv. Mater., Adv. Energy Mater., Chem (Cell), etc., and has received citations over 26000 times with h-index of 91. Prof. Huang is also a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC), the Associate Editor of Battery Energy (Wiley) and Frontiers in Chemistry, the Early Career Advisory Board of JACS Au, the Young Star Editor of Nano Research (Springer Nature), and the Youth Editorial Board Member of Inorg. Chem. Front., J. Electrochem., J. Rare Earths, Rare Metals and Rare Earths. Prof. Huang has also been awarded the Highly Cited Researchers by Clarivate Analytics from 2022-2024, and World’s Top 2% most-cited scientists by Stanford University from 2022-2024. Meanwhile, Prof. Huang has been the invited speaker at international conferences over 30 times and the invited referee for impactful journals including Chem. Rev., Nat. Phys., Adv. Mater., Nat. Commun., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Coord. Chem. Rev., Energy Environ. Sci., Adv. Energy Mater., Adv. Funct. Mater., Joule, Matter, ACS Catal., ACS Nano, Nano Energy, etc.
