Biography

Dr. Lucy Yu is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at City University of Hong Kong. She holds a PhD from the University of Hong Kong and has established herself as a dedicated scholar with a good record of research and teaching excellence.

 

Her academic achievements include two prestigious fellowships sponsored by the Australian government (2007, 2009), the Award for Excellent FE Supervision, and the Award of Caring Teacher Commendation Scheme in 2022. These accolades reflect her commitment to high-quality teaching and research, enriched by her international experiences in Australia and Hong Kong.

 

Lucy’s research has been published in leading international refereed journals, such as Language Teaching, ReCALL, System, Higher Education, Studies in Higher Education, Intercultural Education, Assessment and Evaluation in Higher Education, International Journal of Intercultural Relations, and Journal of Multilingual and Multicultural Development. Her work advances knowledge in second language acquisition, learning motivation and strategies, technology-enhanced language education, international students' adaptation and acculturation, and willingness to communicate.

 

With over a decade of experience in higher education, Dr. Yu teaches courses on methods to language teaching, intercultural communication, grammar in academic contexts, psycholinguistics, English for academic purposes, language and gender, words and their meanings and honours/capstone projects. Her interdisciplinary expertise and passion for education make her a dedicated contributor to the academic community.

 

As a researcher and educator, Lucy remains deeply committed to shaping the future of English language and international education, inspiring both students and fellow scholars.

Motivation in SLA, technology-enhanced language teaching and learning, digital storytelling in English language education, intercultural communication, self-regulated learning strategy and cross-cultural psychology
