Biography
Dr. Andra le Roux-Kemp completed her education and training in a number of disciplines (law, medical anthropology, applied ethics, and musicology) in South Africa and Germany, and is now residing in Hong Kong where she is an Assistant Professor at the School of Law, City University of Hong Kong (HKSAR). Her scholarship centers on the situatedness of law, and explores the theoretical and practical dynamics of legal change in its various spatial and temporal localities. Her research methodology can be described as comparative and transdisciplinary and is reflective of an overarching research ethos that celebrates the intrinsic complexity of law and legal systems, whilst also recognising the inevitable and reciprocal synergy of law with other knowledge spheres. Her primary fields of inquiry are criminal justice as well as medical- and health law. She was awarded a Y-rating as a Promising Young Researcher by the National Research Foundation of South Africa in 2016.
