Danilo A. Reyes completed his PhD at City University of Hong Kong’s Department of Public and International Affairs (PIA). He is a multi-awarded academic, whose research and theories on political violence have received numerous fellowship awards, scholarships and grants in Hong Kong and abroad, including top-rated universities such as the National University of Singapore (NUS), and McGill University (Canada).
Reyes has been teaching undergraduate and taught postgraduate courses in Democracy studies, Political Communication studies, Comparative Politics, Political Economy, Theories of Government and Development, Public Management, and International Relations in East and Southeast Asia, in CityU's PIA department. His work is published in the Journal of Current Southeast Asian Affairs (JCSAA).
Reyes was also a consultant for a research on labour and migration, specifically on migrant domestic workers, at CityU’s Linguistics and Translation Department (LT). Reyes conducts workshops and teaches a team of researchers on research methods. He is also a Visiting Fellow at Southeast Asia Research Centre (SEARC) at CityU.
Reyes had earned a vast work experience in nearly two decades taking on various roles in media organizations, national and international NGOs based in the Philippines and in Hong Kong respectively. Reyes had worked for a United Nations-accredited regional NGO for over a decade researching on human rights issues and advocating protection of human rights in Asia.
In Hong Kong, Reyes previously writes column for United Press International (UPI) and Sunday Examiner in Hong Kong. He has also received an award for his community service to disadvantaged ethnic minority communities, asylum seekers and refugees, and for his assistance to migrant domestic workers in distress.
Reyes completed his Master of Laws specialising on Human Rights (LLM-HR) at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), and a graduate of Bachelor of Arts (BA) with a Major in Mass Communications at the University of Mindanao (UM), Philippines. He is originally from Mindanao in southern Philippines.
