Biography

Prof. Chun-Yuen Wong (Alex) received both his B.Sc. in 2000 and his Ph.D. in 2005 from The University of Hong Kong. He subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at Harvard University from 2005 to 2006, supported by Croucher Foundation Fellowship. In November 2006, he joined the Department of Chemistry at City University of Hong Kong.

Prof. Wong is currently the Associate Dean (Outreach and Internationalisation) of the College of Science at City University of Hong Kong and serves as a Scientific Committee Member of the Hong Kong Society of Cosmetic Chemists (HKSCC).

His research interests are diverse, and he maintains strong connections with various industries. His key areas of focus include:

  1. Fundamental Organometallic Reaction Mechanisms: Investigating the activation of functionalized alkynes by transition metal complexes to better understand organometallic catalytic processes.

  2. Smart Nanostructures for Drug Delivery: Designing and developing nanostructures for use in targeted drug delivery systems, with the goal of enhancing therapeutic efficacy.

  3. Development of Cosmetic Raw Materials and Formulations: Collaborating with various cosmetic industry partners to explore and synthesize active ingredients for cosmetic applications, and to develop innovative cosmetic formulations.

  4. AI-Assisted Drug Discovery and Synthesis: Working with pharmaceutical companies to develop new drugs with the assistance of artificial intelligence, while also designing synthetic strategies for these compounds.
