Biography
Dr. John S. Y. Lee is Associate Professor at the Department of Linguistics and Translation at City University of Hong Kong. He obtained his Bachelor of Mathematics in Computer Science at the University of Waterloo, and PhD in Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He joined CityU in 2010.
Dr. Lee’s research interest is in natural language processing and its applications in digital humanities and computer-assisted language learning. He has led a number of research projects funded by the Innovation and Technology Fund, the Language Fund from the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research, and the General Research Fund from the University Grants Committee in Hong Kong. His recent projects include writing assistance tools for English as a foreign language, corpus-driven learning of Chinese as a foreign language, Cantonese-Mandarin parallel treebank development, and text readability assessment.
