Description | Art critic Phoebe Wong reviewed Linda Lai's site-specific installation "Mnemonic Archiving HK" (Sep-Oct 2017 at Pearl Lam Gallery-Soho-HK) to focus on the artistic and conceptual genealogy of her "Door Game" writing and video series. Wong concludes by highlight Lai's being part of a larger tradition of found-footage moving image create, but developing her own position on moving image for experimental modes of historiography. From last paragraph of the orginal article: "上面這些「二手電影」作品,是把影片影像作圖像學式 (iconography) 挪用、拆解、拼貼、重組來建構故事或議論,說到底,還是說著故事,無論是另說新故事抑或舊故新說。黎肖嫻的門窗系列,更在意探索說故事的框架(拆解粵語片的陳腔濫調與重複)。門窗是框的表徵,框(格,frame)是流動影像的單位,以及框「景」的工具,內容的邊界。如是,黎的門窗研究亦具媒介本體討論的向度。文字遊戲,黎肖嫻手到拿來。睇戲,是黎的本業的重要組成部份,她去紐約讀博士,搞的就是電影歷史和理論研究。拍「錄像日記」(video diaries),漸成她的本能,她用影像分析影像的〈景框戲門〉系列,批判千篇一律的粵語電影的敘事空轉。黎肖嫻口中的遊戲(她百玩不厭)作為媒介影像評論,是一趟Boris Groys 所說的「消極欣賞」(negative appreciation) 的精彩示範。" |
