Description | Announcement of Research Findings on “The awareness and practice of teachers and social workers on the Participation Rights of Children” and Launching Ceremony of child participation guidebook The Hong Kong Committee on Children’s Rights cordially invite your media agency to attend the captioned event on 4th April, 2017 (Tuesday) at the City University of Hong Kong. The HKSAR Chief Executive Election has just finished last week. Mrs. Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, the Chief Executive-elect has promised to set up a Children’s Commission to address children’s needs and listen to their voice more clearly. Children’s “Right to be Heard” or “Right to Participation” is one of the basic rights of children as stipulated by the United Nation’s Convention on the Right of Child. However, its precise meaning and application in different settings such as home, school and community have been rarely discussed and explored. In view of this phenomenon, the Hong Kong Committee on Children’s Rights, with the generous sponsorship of New World Group Charity Foundation Limited, has kicked on the New World made by KIDS project. Through the research project, production of guidebook, and training workshops to promote children’s right to participation in the community. We are honoured to collaborate with the Department of Applied Social Sciences of the City University of Hong Kong on the research: “The awareness and practice of teachers and social workers on the Participation Rights of Children”. We hope that the research can help the public as well as the professionals to reflect upon how they could promote participation rights and help children to develop the skills they need to become active citizens and contribute positively to the society they live in. |
