Myanmar moves step closer to new bids on China-backed belt and road project

Professor Julien Chaisse Quoted in South China Morning Post on Myanmar that has opened the door for new bids against China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) for construction of the New Yangon City project.

Professor Julien Chaisse, an associate member of RCCL, explains that the latest additions to the Entity List (which includes China Communications Construction Company) is aimed at encouraging third countries (like Myanmar) not to do business with these entities. None of the latest listed entities is doing any trade with US. In sharp contrast, CCCC play a pivotal role in the BRI, in particular in Centra and South East Asia. These are the companies that set the BRI in motion and make the BRI an economic reality in most places. The Entity List hurts CCCC’s chances at being chosen as a proponent and by the same token, it will lure more proponents to the project.
