Lianhe Zaobao commentary: Sino-US Relations in the Trump 2.0 Era

Press/Media: Press / Media

Description

Professor Wang Jiangyu published an op-ed in Singpaore's Lianhe Zaobao in which he argued the following: No matter how Trump and his team evolve, his transactional nature as a businessman is unlikely to change. In facing Trump 2.0, China should adopt a comprehensive negotiation strategy under the premise of a firm stance. Through diplomatic means, it can "trade pieces" to gain partial benefits, rather than contesting every single gain or loss. Of course, this does not mean compromising or yielding to Trump. In fact, maintaining a bottom-line mindset and adopting a firm and tough approach toward the Trump administration is not only a matter of principle in safeguarding national interests but also an effective way to create bargaining chips.
