Description

A research team featuring Dr Ban Ki-won, Assistant Professor of the Department of Biomedical Sciences from City University of Hong Kong (CityU) has developed a novel dual approach for the first time for concurrently rejuvenating both the cardiac muscle and vasculature of the heart by utilising two types of stem cells. The results give hope for a new treatment for repairing myocardial infarction (MI) heart.

Description來自香港城市大學的研究團隊利用嶄新的雙管齊下方法,透過兩種不同類型的幹細胞,同時修復心肌和血管,有望為治療心肌梗塞提供新途徑。

由城大生物醫學系助理教授潘基沅博士的研究人員,聯同韓國跨學府團隊,首次綜合研究兩種幹細胞對心臟修復的效能。他們所選用兩種幹細胞,分別是從人骨髓衍生的間充質幹細胞(簡稱:hMSCs),以及自人工誘導性多功能幹細胞衍生的心肌細胞(簡稱:hiPSC-CMs)。科研人員直接注射hiPSC-CMs入老鼠心臟邊緣位置的心肌內,並在該心肌梗塞的心臟表面植入含有hMSCs的貼片,如傷口敷料貼一樣覆蓋梗塞範圍。結果顯示,這種雙管齊下的做法令心肌梗塞的心臟功能顯著改善,並促進血管的形成。

Description城大生物醫學助理教授潘基沅聯同來自建國大學、韓國天主教大學等研究團隊,選用一種從人骨髓衍生的間充質幹細胞(hMSCs)及另一種心肌細胞(hiPSC-CMs),研究雙重幹細胞改善心肌梗塞的可能性。研究人員直接注射hiPSC-CMs於老鼠心臟邊緣位置的心肌內,並在該心肌梗塞的心臟表面植入含有hMSCs的貼片,即如傷口敷料般覆蓋梗塞範圍。結果顯示在雙管齊下的做法下可顯著改善心肌梗塞的心臟功能,並促進血管形成,有關研究結果已在科學期刊《自然通訊》發表。潘相信這種方法具潛力為心臟再生領域提供轉化及臨床的效用。

基於相同的原理,雙重幹細胞更有望修復其他器官的相同情況,包括腦、肝和胰臟。研究團隊正準備於其他大型動物如豬隻作進一步研究。

The two major types of stem cells employed are human bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) and cardiomyocytes derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSC-CMs). The research findings have been published in Nature Communications in a paper titled “Dual stem cell therapy synergistically improves cardiac function and vascular regeneration following myocardial infarction”.
