Description

One of the top scientists at City University of Hong Kong (CityU), Professor Luk Kwai-man, has been elected as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in the UK in recognition of his profound contributions to advancing the development of antennas.

Professor Luk (Chair Professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering) is one of the very few locally groomed scientists to be awarded this Fellowship, which is considered to be one of the highest honours an engineer can receive in the UK.

Description近年選讀工程或投身研究工作的香港學生愈來愈少,於香港完成教育並取得博士的陸貴文坦言,希望年輕人能拋開「能否掙錢」的升學標準,積極考慮投身科研事業,他指出讀工程不一定要天才,有能力選讀卻沒有選讀工程,甚至好像只因為沒有其他選擇才選讀工程的話,實在可惜。他又指學生擔心出路問題,不以科究作為終身事業,感到非常可惜。

Description城大電子工程學系講座教授陸貴文近日獲選為英國皇家工程院院士,以表彰其推動天線研究的貢獻。這位土生土長的科學家,學士至博士學位都是在香港取得,與「海歸」學者相比,他覺得「土產」學者毫不遜色,更認為港人不該囿於環境,哪怕活在香港,也可以擁有國際性視野。
陸貴文是城大毫米波國家重點實驗室創始主任,現時致力研究磁電耦極天線技術,並將其推廣應用於5G通訊。若5G技術普及,屆時數據的傳遞速度會更快,甚至比現時快上一百倍。
