Description
As a non-normative and highly stigmatised act, plagiarism is more likely to be treated as a violation of academic ethics rather than as a feature of academic writing. However, plagiarism (in its broadest sense) is quite common, and therefore needs to be taken into account in researching and teaching academic writing. This talk will begin with a brief summary of what we know about plagiarism, particularly in EAP/second-language writing contexts. It will then describe the ways in which findings from plagiarism research can inform our understanding of, and teaching of, academic writing.
