Description
In recent years, to supplement its existing one credit-unit, pre-service teacher education course for GTAs, CityU introduced a one-credit unit course in English for the Medium of Instruction. As an EMI university, CityU trains GTAs who need additional support in teaching to undergraduates through the medium of English. Upon successful completion of that course (or exemption from it for those with the requisite language skills), students must then successfully complete the course SG8001 Teaching Students: First Steps prior to teaching CityU undergraduates. The course consists of a series of lectures and workshops to help students develop their teaching knowledge, attitude, and skills. Assessment task includes a Simulated Teaching Session where students demonstrate their ability in teaching. Upon completion of that course, students are also invited to join an optional on-line Advanced Tutors Series to further develop their teaching knowledge and skills.
