In this talk, I examine the transnational connections–broadly defined–in which most Sikhs in Hong Kong have sought to create, maintain, and mediate through their regular return visits to India. Chiefly drawing on long-term ethnographic fieldwork, which I started in 2005, in both Hong Kong and the Indian state of Punjab, the talk unpacks the way in which these return trips has consolidated the global diasporic connections between the Sikhs in these two localities and their related global circuits. In so doing, the talk analyzes the sociocultural, economic, and political factors that have been defining the ongoing significance of these trips, as well as explores how these factors may have become increasingly anti-diasporic in the (post-)COVID-19 era.
