Description
Virtual Reality (VR) is now when World Wide Web was in 1995. We are witnessing a unique stage of hybridity of interaction models, visual metaphors, remediations and experimentations as designers strive to conceive the best paradigms for making use of unique affordances of HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Gear VR etc. The aim of this lecture is to examine interaction models, user interface (UI) and aesthetics implemented in applications for accessing / managing media content and data in a VR environment. In terms of technological capabilities, today’s VR platforms do not significantly differ from the prototypes conceived by entrepreneurs and artists decades ago. However, media and industry narratives try to position VR platforms as the next desired computational platforms that will soon replace personal computers and mobile devices. Are we, not only technologically, but conceptually and socially, ready for that?
