Activity: Talk/lecture or presentation › Talk/lecture
Description
Continuing the public programme of our autumn 2021 Collecting as Practice season, three of our current artists Musquiqui Chihying (Taiwan/Germany), Shiraz Bayjoo (UK associate) and Leung Chi Wo + Sara Wong (UK associates) will present and discuss their work, which deconstructs the photographic and visual languages of empire.
Focusing on historical photographs and archival materials, these artists employ methods including fictional re-enactment, collage and experimental documentary-making to reveal and challenge the settlers’ gaze, re-inscribing images with lost specificity, humanity and generating new aesthetic possibilities.
Following short presentations by each of the artist there will be a conversation between them moderated by the programme’s associate curator Rose Lejeune.
