Description
The EID Veterinary Public Health (VPH) Consultant will support the preparation of a report ‘Stock-taking of Animal Health Systems and Implications for Livelihoods, Food Safety and Public Health Outcomes – Building Foundations for One Health in East Asia and Pacific’.The scope of the work would entail, building on experiences of EID emergences (PEDV 1980; SARS 2002; H5N1 2003; H7N9 2013; SADS 2017; ASF 2018; COVID-19), (i) review the drivers of EID emergence in EAP by analysing the human, animal and ecosystem interfaces, (ii) draw lessons from major EID outbreaks and responses brought by national, regional and global institutions, and (iii) provide a set of recommendations for policies and operational investments for countries to better prevent and react to future outbreaks of emerging infectious diseases. The report will address the critical questions: (i) how can EAP countries (especially resource-constrained countries) reduce the drivers of and increase their resilience to major disease outbreaks and (ii) how can EAP countries capacity be strengthened to aggressively respond and contain disease outbreaks before they cause significant human suffering and economic loss.Research Unit / Event Journal/Book Series
